Long Term vs Short Term Semen Retention: Full Breakdown

Any man practicing retention should understand the difference between long term and short term semen retention.

While retention is an incredible practice, many men get caught up in things like counting the days and “never releasing again”.  High standards are great, unless you can never live up to them and end up in a state of disappointment.

It’s not that you’re going to go watch porn or beat off.  However, it’s inevitable that you will release again in the future at some point.  Sure, there’s an exceptional percentage of men, maybe 1-2% of retainers, who will retain forever.   Only 1% of men practice semen retention at all.  And 1% of those men will choose celibacy for life.

If that’s you, that’s great.  Much love to you on your journey.  But that’s not the vast majority of men who retain.  99% of men who practice semen retention will release in the future.  Because when you retain, when you practice semen retention, and you focus on your purpose, great things happen.  You level up.  Financial freedom becomes a reality for you.

You have options in terms of where you want to live and how you want to conduct your life.  And of course, with greater options also comes more women attraction.  You may choose to have a girlfriend and a family, or may choose to date different women.

Being Honest about “Retaining Forever”

But regardless, the chances are high you will bust a nut at some point in the future.  Don’t let the incredible feeling of having all of your energy fool you.  More than likely, you will be busting nuts during sex with a woman who wants your seed.  That’s the natural course of life and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The best approach is to be realistic with semen retention and strategically use it as the powerful tool that it is.  There’s a time for long term semen retention and a time for short term semen retention.  Let’s make that distinction.

Long Term Semen Retention

Long term semen retention is what most guys simply refer to as retaining.  It’s when you’re retaining for months or even years at a time.  Generally the main attributes of long term retention are as follows:

  • months to years
  • single
  • grind phase
  • single

Short Term Semen Retention

Short term semen retention is what most guys will end up transitioning into.  Or at least they should.  The problem is that guys think it’s long term retention or nothing.  Which ends up in many relapses, sexual frustration, or just complete abandonment of semen retention once they start having consistent sex.  The attributes of short term retention are as follows:

  • 2-3 week cycles
  • relationship / sexually active
  • grow + maintain phase
  • established

Don’t be Fooled by the “High” of Long Term Semen Retention

A lot of men get the “high” when they’re retaining for long periods of time.  I’ve seen it time and time again.  Guys who have been retaining for “182 days” or “18 months” or x amount of time.  They feel incredibly powerful.  They feel insulted that I’m telling them they’ll one day release.

But then they disappear for 3 or 4 months, and then come back around.

What happens is they meet a woman, they begin to have sex, and they bust nuts.  But they don’t just release their seed here and there.  They begin to bust a nut every time they have sex.  This leads to them busting nuts at least once a day, oftentimes more.  And then they lose the alpha energy they once had.  The girl they were dating / their girlfriend gets turned off because the man is now become beta with her.  She then dumps him and moves on.  He then comes back to me explaining his story.

Don’t give up Retention, make it a Lifestyle

The whole point here is to make semen retention a lifestyle.

Once you’re done with long term semen retention, make the transition to short term retention.  You do this when you become sexually active by still making semen retention a part of your life.  You’re more than likely not going to have long streaks.  That’s fine.  You shouldn’t be counting the days anyways.  Instead, you’ll retain in shorter cycles of 2-3 weeks.

Which means you can have sex as often as you like, but just minimize the ejaculations to once every few weeks.  It’s that simple.  You still get the benefits of semen retention, but they’re just not going to be as strong as if you’re retaining for longer intervals.  That’s the price you pay for having sex.  You can get the most potent benefits if you’re doing long term semen retention.  But you can still get decent benefits retaining in shorter cycles.

You must make it a lifestyle.  Don’t give up retention just because you now get an attractive girlfriend.  Don’t be one of those guys who throws out everything and ends back up at square one.  Do long term semen retention when it suits you.  And when you’re in a position where you’re having sex, simply make the transition to short term semen retention.  You’re still retaining, just in shorter cycles.  Being sexually active and practicing semen retention is possible.

This approach is going to be the most practical way for men to still retain while having a sex life.  It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  You may start off your journey with a long streak, and that’s fantastic.  But semen retention isn’t meant to be just a “stage” in life.  Make it a lifestyle.
